Synopsis: This lecture explores the political phenomenon of post-truth. Starting with a comparison between Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, we will distinguish between three different concepts: ‘lies’, ‘bullshit’ and ‘post-truth’. In the middle part of the lecture I will suggest that the work of Hannah Arendt can help us understand the full scale of the existential threat posed by post-truth today. Finally, ways to emasculate the potentially destructive effect of Post-Truth on democratic society will be considered.
